August 2023 Recap





 August always goes by super fast for our family.  

We celebrated 3 birthdays in August (Mine, Clay's, and Alice's). We had a good time celebrating all three! Alice had a purple and horse theme party, she's been obsessed with purple lately haha! 

We also had a great trip to Gatlinburg TN. We saw a bear at Cades Cove, played in the mountain streams, and ate some good food! Paula Deen's in Pigeon Forge and Mamas Chicken Kitchen were our favorites. We stayed at the cutest and cleanest motel in downtown Gatlinburg called Marshalls Creek, I highly recommend! Very reasonable prices and easy to walk to downtown Gatlinburg. 

Back home, the garden has now been taken over by weeds :( but the produce is starting to dwindle anyways so I guess it's not too big of a deal. I finished with 41 quarts of canned green beans, 19 quarts of canned tomatoes, 5 quarts of canned pickles, lots of frozen green peppers and even more coming on, and the okra is coming on strong as well, which will be chopped up and frozen for gumbo later on in the cold season, yum!!

My crazy flower garden (also covered in weeds) is starting to slow down a bit as well. As the flowers have been dying I have been collecting the dried seeds for next years garden. Calendula, tickseed, larkspur, cosmos, and cornflower are the seeds I've been able to collect so far. I will have a few more flower seeds to collect later on after my sunflowers and Zinnias start to die off. These seeds will be perfect for reseeding next year but also for Christmas gifts this year! 

Something new I tried this month is cross stitch. So far I find it pretty enjoyable and I think it will be a great little hobby to have during the long Winter evenings! 

Random but I wanted to share a little hidden secret for those who enjoy getting things for a great price. I utilize this online auction site all the time and have been able to get some pretty great deals on things I needed or wanted ;) It's called HiBid and it has all the local auctions in your area on this site. Since I live in Indiana I type in Indiana HiBid and all the auctions for my state pop up. It has been so fun to look at and find things for great prices plus you are helping out local auctioneers! My mom shared this with me last year so I figured I would share with you all!

The days are getting a little cooler around here with less humidity, yay! I have been trying to soak up all of Summer but I am so excited for cool Fall days!

 Baby number 4 is a BOY!!! Harley was born a few days before Christmas. He weighed 10lbs 3oz and 22 inches long! My biggest baby and another short birth. We arrived at the hospital about an hour before he was born. I am so grateful that this birth was also blessed and my doctor and nurses were amazing! My husband is my biggest support during labor and he really helped me through each painful contraction. I love him so much! Me and Harley are doing well and were able to come home before Christmas! We are so grateful! Christmas was a bit different this year with a brand new baby but we made it work! My first quilt

 I just recently learned how to quilt and finished up my very first quilted project. Now, I'm used to cutting up old torn quilts and remaking them into new items that can be used for many more years but I never had the courage or faith in myself to try and make my own quilt. Math was not (is not) my strong suit and I was even worse as geometry, it makes my brain hurt haha! But it's good to try things that stretch your imagination every once in a while! When I talked to my good friend about my interest in trying she jumped right on board and even bought an awesome vintage quilt book that has been a game changer for learning how to quilt! I highly recommend this book if you are wanting to learn how to quilt. I promise you can do it! Here's my first finished quilt!!!! We decided on trying the Ohio Star pattern first and even though it is a little more difficult it is just squares and triangles arranged in a certain pattern. September Recap

 September for us normally means the start of Harvest season, warm days and cool nights, getting back into the groove of things after the end of Summer. I love the change in the weather in our area. The hot humid days are behind us and cool evenings are a nice relief. The different smells that Fall and harvest bring to the country along with the changing colors to the trees. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. This September started off different from the rest and has forced me to slow down by quite a bit. I had been feeling more contractions around the beginning/middle of September but kept putting them off since I have grown used to Braxton Hicks in all of my pregnancies. After this continued off and on for a week I decided it was time to call my doctors and make sure everything was fine, better safe than sorry.
