Farm series part 3 [Farm Drama]

It was starting to get dark. Clay had made it to his next field and even though there had been a lot of traffic on the highway it was an uneventful drive. But uneventful was good news!  As he started on the final field for the day he recalled the time an impatient driver caused a scene and could have caused a major accident.  It had been years earlier when Clay and one of his brothers had been taking some of the larger farm equipment from one field to another. They had to cross a dangerous section of highway in order to reach their destination.  Clay made it safely across with his brother next in line to cross. His brother started to cross the highway when he noticed a car was coming a little too fast. As it was now too late to stop the tractor and backup he continued to cross hoping the person would understand and slow down. He made it across safely but the driver was hopping mad! He turned onto the country road the brothers were driving down. As he raced in front of the...

Farm series part 2 [Clays POV]

The Farmer looked at his watch, "only a quarter past 3 and already my stomach thinks my throat's cut." His stomach growled as if replying in agreement.  "I wonder what Hope is cooking up tonight? Maybe that wonderful chicken salad?" His stomach ached a little harder at the thought. Farming was hard work, it made for a healthy appetite! Food was the way to this tall Farmers heart, that and Mountain Dew. The Farmer would have to wait until late tonight for supper. He was exhausted, working 12 to 15 hours a day really starts to wear a person down. Thankfully Sunday was rest day and set aside for church and family. He loved those rest/family times! He looked at the clock on the combine monitor, it was getting c...

Farm series part 1 [The Beginning]

There was a steady wind blowing across the home place.  "Good", thought the farmer's wife, "this wind should help the beans dry out faster! That rain was little help since the men are already behind with the harvest this year." Every year brought a different challenge for these grain farmers of Indiana. Some years there was too much rain, other years drought. Farming, though tough, was worth it. There is something sacred about tending the land, a God given gift or calling.  Hope breathed in a deep breath of October air. Exhaling slowly she headed for the quaint farm house. "I better be getting supper finished for the kids." Those long harvest days weren't always easy and eating without the farmer was lonesome. The times that supper was taken to the field were always a joyous occasion for the whole family! But tonight the men wouldn't have time to stop and eat their meal. It was going to rain, again. The moment they were able to start a field it...
